Kleins & Us

Kleins has a rich history as a family business spanning three generations. For decades it supplied London's theatre land, costume departments, fashion designers, fashion students, and anyone with a love of beautiful trims.

That's not our story to tell. This bit is ours.

In the late 1980s, Richard joined Kleins as a shop assistant. It was a vibrant little shop on Noel Street, just off Oxford Street in the heart of London's West End, filled floor to ceiling with fascinating haberdashery. He later became their travelling salesperson, visiting design studios across London with bags full of shoulder pads, lace collars and trims. His customers included Vivienne Westwood and a young Alexander McQueen.

Meanwhile, Sharon was working on the other side of Oxford Street in one of those very design studios, just starting out as a pattern cutter, and would regularly pop into Kleins' basement whenever she needed a covered button.

As they often do, one thing led to another. More than 30 years later, we're now the proud custodians of Kleins Haberdashery. It's still a family business, just with a different family behind it.

Today we're proud to continue supplying beautiful haberdashery to theatres, costume departments, fashion designers, students, makers and anyone who appreciates a gorgeous trim.

When the original Kleins London shop closed, we became custodians of a unique collection of historic haberdashery, preserving decades of specialist stock for a new generation of makers. Many of these original trims, ribbons, laces and haberdashery pieces now form the Kleins Archive, a collection with a connection to fashion, theatre and costume history.
